Are you a Cocktail Lover?
We are too! But have you ever thought about the artificial ingredients often used and the sky-high calorie counts? Of course these vary depending on the cocktails you drink, but why not enjoy healthier, more natural versions?
Enter Jules Aron, The Healthy Bartender, who crafts beautiful, healthier, restorative cocktails made with fresh flowers, herbs, teas and superfoods. We asked Jules to tell us a little more about herself and the inspiration behind her natural bartending approach. She even shared a sangria recipe that's perfect for entertaining if you're planning any upcoming festivities!
Can you tell us why you chose to follow the path of a "healthy" bartender versus the more traditional route?
As a holistic health coach with a passion for wellness I grew up eating good, wholesome food. And to this day, I love to eat clean and stay active. Nothing warms my heart like a table full of my favorite people sharing a flavorful meal paired with fresh, crisp cocktails.
Yet, I’ve always been bothered by the mixes and syrups in mainstream cocktails. They always tasted too sweet and artificial, and gave me headaches and hangovers. I wanted drinks that made me feel energized and refreshed not sluggish and tired.
I was fascinated by restorative cocktails created in early apothecaries as a means of imbibing the powerful medicinal properties of flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables. But I wanted them to be simple to make and delicious to enjoy.
Being drawn to healing modalities, I studied yoga, qigong and Chinese medicine and trained as a holistic health coach. I developed a clear sense of the power of wholesome nutrition and how to incorporate those nutrients into my cocktails.
In my first book, Zen and Tonic, Fresh and Savory Cocktails for the Enlightened Drinker, I skip the refined sugar and artificial ingredients in favor of garden-to-glass cocktails made with superfoods, herbs, teas, fresh juices and vegetables putting a contemporary twist on the curative cocktail.
You have a new cookbook coming out soon, tell us more!
In my second title, out in June 2017, I turn my attention to plant based cheeses, where I share over 60 non-dairy cheese recipes using nuts, seeds and vegetables as the base. With so many people suffering from dairy allergies or looking to cut down on dairy for health reasons, I couldn't help but jump on the opportunity to create non-dairy versions of such a crave-worthy staple. Not sure how I went from cocktails to cheese, but I'm certainly ready to pair them together!
We're delighted to partner with Jules, not only is she remarkably beautiful inside and out, she's wildly creative and innovative... her book Zen and Tonic is enchanting and her new book is certain to be just as lovely.
