The Island in the Sky is a truly remarkable labor of love crafted in Ecuador's Andes mountains. Your host Nicholas and his local friends built the entire home from the ground up with sustainable methods. He believes in caring for the land, mother earth, and his guests with kindness, respect and love.
In a vibrant community of 1300 people, you will feel the deep connection to the land and agriculture as well as beautiful cultural traditions. The town of Cahuasqui, 2.5 hours from Quito by bus, is a peaceful, calming place... surrounded by glorious mountains, rivers and of course friendly neighborhood donkeys. Sweet kid-friendly llamas are also resident here.
Nicholas is also a sustainable farmer by trade, and a huge advocate for sustainable farming, social justice, and a believer in spirituality, balance and wellness. He currently lives part time in California so you may instead be greeted by a friendly local host. You are welcome to harvest produce from his garden and he is happy to connect you with local guides to visit a local trout farm or camp, and you'll find myriad nature activities including hiking, horseback riding and hot springs just 30 minutes away.
Island in the Sky is the first step in the development of a community project that will include sustainable farming and has already brought jobs to the local community.
